Copyediting

As part of the copyediting process, I correct spelling, punctuation and grammar. I improve non-standard phrasing, style, formatting and accuracy of text. I ensure the accuracy, style, content and placing of tables, figures and references. I raise clear, unambiguous queries where clarification and author input is required. I work on-screen and on hard copy.

Proofreading

I work on hard and soft copy. As part of my proofreading process, I check for typographical and mechanical errors which may have been introduced during the typesetting stage. I check the flow of the text and the layout of the material, in general. I compare against original texts to ensure accuracy. I’m happy to liaise directly with authors to address any outstanding issues of clarification.

Project management

Working with publishers and their production staff, with authors, typesetters and with printers, I take copy from the unedited accepted manuscript stage through to final publication.

Editing of non-native English texts

I work to ensure correct phrasing and syntax is provided within texts. I ensure smooth, unstilted, copyflow. Where clarification is needed due to language difficulties and ambiguities, I am happy to work directly with authors to resolve any issues.

Website editing

I work on backstage content management systems, including Drupal and WordPress. I ensure accuracy of spelling, punctuation and grammar, consistency of style and voice throughout a website, and ensure that links navigate to the correct locations.
